Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets

Greetings everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today, I will be reviewing Pink Floyd's second studio album, A Saucerful of Secrets. Not much else to say, let's just jump into it.

Starting off the album, we have Let There Be More Light, which starts off with a really catchy bass melody, of all things. And only after more than a minute, does Pink Floyd bring in a lead guitar. The riff towards the end is just amazing, the distortion and reverb make the guitar sound so heavy and spacey. The drums are especially powerful in this song, and I love how the song gets more and more chaotic as the track ends.

Remember A Day was a pretty calm track, with some surprisingly soothing vocals and lovely piano melody. The bass sounds really nice on this track, and so does the guitar, only this time, it's a bit quiter.

Set The Control For The Heart of The Sun was an abstract song, with some quiet drums, calm bassline and a piano driven lead, also incorporating SFX. This is another great track.

Corporal Clegg was a more guitar driven song with some, almost kazoo-sounding instrumentation around the middle. Another great song.

A Saucerful of Secrets, the song, is a rather spacey, almost ambiental track, featuring little in the realm of rock sounds. Didn't really enjoy it though.

See-Saw started off calm, but slowly spiraled into madness, bringing in violins around the middle of the track, slowly adding more noise. Than reverting back to normal towards the end.

And finally, we have Jugband Blues, which was Syd Barrett's last song in Pink Floyd. Honestly, it wasn't anything special for me. I didn't like that much.

So, compared to their first album, Pink Floyd has improved a bit, but still have a bit more to go. Their guitar work has drastically improved and this record will stand as one of their better album.

Favourite tracks: Let There Be More Light, Remember A Day, Set The Control For The Heart of The Sun, Corporal Clegg, See-Saw;
Score: 8/10
