Silk Sonic - An Evening With Silk Sonic
Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today, I will be reviewing the debut album of super duo Silk Sonic, An Evening With Silk Sonic. This duo is comprised of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, and together, they worked on this throwback to the 70s R&B era. Usually, I wouldn't be inclined to check out some of these more mainstream artists, but after seeing the hype and listening to the singles, I aid why not give it a try.
We open with the intro, setting the mood for the rest of the record.
And then, Leave The Door Open is officially the smoothest song of 2021. This song is just a throwback to the 70s. The vocal harmonies are so soothing, the bass is just amazing, and so is the ear candy. Great opener.
Fly As Me is the grooviest song on here. The bass work is dirty, but catchy. The vocals, again, are great. The organs also create a very unique atmosphere, filling the soundscapes.
Next we have After Last Night, which is the sexiest song on this whole album. The whole song is slow and moody. The vocals are just as smooth, the strings are so serene, this whole song is superb.
Smokin Out The Window is more of this same smooth soul that we've just heard. And I think we can all agree that the "This b!tch got me paying her rent" line was just hilarious.
Put On A Smile was rather forgettable, as it sounded almost exactly the same as Leave The Door Open.
777 sounded like a rehash of Fly As Me.
Skate, on the other hand, is probably my favourite song here. The violins are one of the big reasons for why. They just create a completely different atmosphere. The vocals are great and the drumming is especially clean on this track.
And we close with Blast Off. A slow and smooth closer to the album. The strings are amazing, and we even have a guitar solo around the middle. A breath of fresh air, and a great closer for the record.
Overall, this album was very charming and something very unexpected from the mainstream, however I think that if this album was any longer, it might been detrimental to the record's quality. Still, a must listen!
