Kanye West - Late Registration
Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today, I will be reviewing Kanye's sophomore release, Late Registration. After the success that was The College Dropout, Kanye said "Eh, why not make a career out of this rap thing?"
After a weird opening skit, we start with Heard 'Em Say, featuring Marron 5 vocalist, Adam Levine, who, somehow really works on this track, especially the soft, but jazzy instrumental.
Touch The Sky is one of the more bombastic songs on here. The brassy instrumental works very well with the lyrical content, and is overall another great song.
eyyy gold digger
The skits on this album are pretty fire. Next we have Drive Slow, which is another one of the mellower songs on here. It's slow, and simple, another track I really liked.
My Way Home is similiar to the previous track, only this time with a pitched down vocal sample.
Crack Music is a bit of a lesser song, not because of the themes, but I really didn't surprise me in anyway.
Roses is another forgettable track on here. The instrumental is boring, and so are the bars.
Bring Me Down is more of the same.
Addiction finally brings something interesting to the album. I love the guitar driven instrumental, and the lyrics hit hard aswell. Definetly a favourite on the album.
Diamonds From Sierra Leone is another great song. The extravagant instrumental, the Jay Z feature, they all create a very expensive and exclusive atmosphere which would have fit very well on Watch The Throne.
We Major is one of the lesser songs on here. It's length is one of the reasons I don't like it: 7 minutes and there isn't any progression or interesting parts? Not even the features can fix the track.
Hey Mama is a song dedicated to his beloved mother, Donda West. It's a very sweet song and the instrumental sounds very warm and welcoming.
Celebration is another weak song. The instrumental is boring and the lyrics aren't special either.
skit #4. among us.
Gone is a lesser track, but this time, it just sticks to my brain and I don't like it.
Thankfully, the closer, Late, is a slow and soulful song that reminds of Kanye's debut. This is the kind of songs I enjoyed on there.
So, this album didn't hit quite as hard as The College Dropout. A mixed bag to say the least, and I don't see myself returning to it. The skits are still pretty funny tho, much better than the ones on Kanye's debut.
