Metallica - Kill 'Em All

 Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today, I will be reviewing the debut studio album from Metallica, Kill 'Em All. I pretty sure you know who Metallica is. World famous legendary thrash group, so let's see just see how thrashy their first album was.

We open with the fast and aggressive, Hit The Lights, which has become one of my favourite metal songs ever. The fast drumming, the yelling and those solos, ohhh, those solos. Pure ear candy.

Next we have The Four Horsemen, one of the band's more well known songs from this album. It's also the band's first 7 minute long song, and it well deserves that length. The guitar work, the vocals and the drumming are all great.

Motorbreath is one of the lesser songs on here. Not quite as memorable as some of the other cuts on here.

Jump In The Fire is another high energy song, and whilst not as fast as the opener, it still has a very catchy hook, and the solo at the middle is stellar.

Next we have (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth, where we simply hear a bass solo from the then bassist of Metallica, Cliff Burton. Not very mind blowing, but an interesting cut nonetheless.

Whiplash, on the the other hand, brings back the speed of the opener. The chugging guitars are also a plus from me.

Phantom Lord keeps that fastness going. The solo around the middle is another highlight. But then, suddenly, after all the thrashing, we get into a calmer section filled with clean guitars, showing us the band had that ballad material from the beginning. And then the solo after the calm part, is just amazing as the first one.

No Remorse. More of the same. High energy thrash metal, tho not quite as fast as the previous song.

Seek And Destroy is another one of the band's most popular songs. I've also noticed a pattern that with a lot of the solos on here, the beginning of the riff, starts, then stops for a couple seconds, then comes back, a goes quiet, and so on, and it's no different here.

And finally, Metal Militia closes out the album in a bang, the same way the album started. Fast guitars, pounding drums and something that I don't hear everyday: an audible bass in a metal song. We also see James mentioning "Ripping and tearing"... Doom reference?

So for a debut album, this was quite a treat. I loved the guitars, especially on the faster paced songs, the drumming was stellar, and whilst the vocals could be worked on, this was an overall, great debut.

Favourite tracks: All, except for Motorbreath and Anesthesia;
Score: 9/10
