Queen - Queen

 Welcome back everyone to my blog. Today, I will start reviewing the legendary discography of Queen. No introduction needed here, we all know who Queen is. Let's get straight into their self entitled first album.

Starting off, we have Keep Yourself Alive, a decent rock 'n' roll sounding song. The guitar was great, but the drums felt very empty, and was one of the main reasons this track isn't so good.

Doing Alright started off with a calm melody, reminiscent of Pink Floyd's later work, more abstract in nature. However, around the 2 minute mark, the track suddenly shifts to another rock 'n' roll-esc song, and then back to a calm section. This song, while a bit odd in nature, was a great song actually.

Moving on, we have Great King Rat, with a highly energetic feel to it, Brian May's guitar work, being absolutely stunning on this track. My man just goes bonkers. Then, around the middle of the track, it switches to a calmer section, then back to a high energy section.

My Fairy King was a rather odd track, in my opinion, with some weird vocals and "bored" sounding drums. Really forgettable in my opinion.

Liar was a change for the better, with a much more exciting feel. It started strong, but for some reason felt like it was loosing composure and the vocals sounded a bit of beat.

The Night Comes Down was a more acoustic sounding song, with a very Pink Floyd feel to it. The calm vocals, the slow drums and soothing guitar melody made for a unique feel. Really nice track.

Modern Times Rock 'N Roll was a short, rather forgettable track.

Son and Daughter was a pretty nice song, but, once again, lacked rememberability.

Jesus was a track that featured religious lyrics and a slower beat. It was pretty neat actually, especially the guitar work around the end. A better song compared to the previous two.

And finally, the last track was a short instrumental version of a future Queen song, Seven Seas of Rhye, which I shall be reviewing on it's respective record.

So, is this album good? Not really. Does it have good songs? Yes. Is it one of Queen's best records? No. Even though it features some good songs, it really lacks in the memorability section, which pulls this record down.

Favourite tracks: Doing Alright, Great King Rat, The Night Comes Down, Jesus;
Score: 5/10
