Pink Floyd - Meddle
Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today, I will be reviewing Pink Floyd's Meddle. I have heard a lot of people saying that this is the precursor to the legendary, Dark Side of The Moon. Well then, let's see if it is so.
Starting off the album, we have One Of Those Days, which starts with an energetic bassline and a powerful wind blowing in the background, also featuring occasional organ chords. And then, at the 2 minute mark, a guitar emerges from beneath, however it is quickly filtered to sound like it's "stuttering". Finally, the track turns into a proper Pink Floyd rock song.
A Pillow Of Winds was a simple, yet rather long, mainly acoustic song. Yeah, it was good.
Fearless was a not so acoustic song, this time featuring actual percussion, however it still maintained it's calm demeanour, and then just before the 5 minute mark, a crowd starts singing. Another good track.
San Tropez was another calm song, this time having a more jazz feel to it. Really enjoyed this one.
Seamus was a short acoustic melody, with a few dog barks here and there, though they are louder towards the beginning and end of the song. Everything up until know was great, but was honestly rather empty... that is, until...
The journey begins with a loud sonar, beeping at a constant rate. Slowly a guitar is introduced, and so is percussion... and then the airy and soft vocals of Mr. Richard Wright and Mr. David Gilmour fill the space, as a soft organ plays in the background. After that, a gentle guitar solo starts, the track slowly, but surely louder and noisier... when suddenly, we transition into a much more jazzy section, where Mr. David's guitar plays some amazing melodies. After more than 3 minutes of these boppy tunes, a loud ambient takes over the soundscape, as the instruments get more and more quite. High pitched, almost whale like screeches permeate the haunting ambient. Wind blows and the noises continue... until, an organ like ping resonates through the soundscape. Slowly, piano chords get louder and louder, until a guitar emerges once more from the shadows, alongside percussion... And finally, a beautiful guitar melody rings gently, and finally Mr. Richard and Mr. David's soft vocal harmony returns once more, slowly closing out the track, a powerful gust of wind slowly gets louder.
This album was absolutely amazing, and a must listen for anyone interested. If you've got the time, get yourself a nice pair of headphones, and just enjoy this album.
