Aphrodite's Child - It's Five O'Clock

 Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today, we will be reviewing Aphrodite's Child's sophomore album, It's Five O'Clock. Not much else to say here, let's jump straight into this album.

We start with the title track. A slow, mellow ballad, with a beautiful vocal performance from Mr. Roussos. A must listen.

Wake Up sounds like a song from the beginning of The Beatles' career. That wouldn't be so bad, if the lyrics and vocals weren't so generic. Neither is the instrumental something to talk about.

Take Your Time sounds like the most generic American folk song you'll ever hear. The harmonica sounds "bored", and the vocals are just decent. It also has one of the most boring instrumentals in the band's entire career.

On the other side, we have the beautiful Annabella. The gorgeous vocal performance, soft, whimsical instrumental, they all create an amazing song. A much needed refresher from the previous two songs.

Let Me Love, Let Me Live has much louder rock sound to it, featuring a bombastic electric guitar. But then the song falls apart when the vocal harmonies kick in. They are SO obnoxious, and they never stop.

Funky Mary sounded so offbeat and random at points. Another obnoxious song on this album.

Good Time So Fine had some very weird vocals, as if they were pitched up and down. The instrumental was pretty good, but the singing ruined it.

Thankfully, we return to a slow, romantic song Marie Jolie, sounding pretty similiar to Annabella. Beautiful vocals and soft instrumental.

And finally, we have Such A Funny Night. It was just OK, nothing memorable. Not that it was bad, just not very memorable.

So, overall, a rather bad album, with not to much substance to it. Rather disappointing given their debut.

Favourite tracks: It's Five O'Clock, Annabella, Marie Jolie;
Score: 4/10
