Death Grips - Fashion Week

 Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today, I will be reviewing the instrumental album by Death Grips, Fashion Week. Released after the group's supposed break-up, this record features no Ride. It is, as I just mentioned, an instrumental hip hop album. Let's see what it has to offer...

And immediately, we are greeted to Runaway J. It features some acid like synths, high pitched chords and industrial sounding percussion. Not bad, but neither anything special.

Runway E, on the other hand, is heavy, and had it been a bit more lo-fi, it would have fit very nicely on the legendary Money Store. The percussion sounds dirty and aggressive, the song glitches at points, the bass is heavy and distorted, great track.

Runway N is just annoying. The happy sounding synth lead sticks to my brain, and I do not like that. The drums aren't anything special either.

Runway n (2) sounds like a more synthetic version of the more rock influenced songs from Exmilitary. The lead synth is so distorted, it sounds like a guitar.

Runway Y was pretty mid. Really don't have anything to comment on.

Runway D sounded surprisingly similiar to the previous song, only a bit richer in sound, and much catchier aswell. Really enjoyed the dirty synth leads, and the artificial sounding drums fitted the song very well.

Runway E (2) wasn't anything notable. Sounded pretty similiar t Runway J.

Runway A sounded like one of those bare instrumentals from No Love Deep Web. And I did not like that album's sound.

Runway T is actually pretty good. The fuzzy synth leads reminded a lot of Get Got, alongside the distorted drums.

Runway H had some really nice bass. But then it just tried too hard to replicate the sound of Punk Weight.

Runway W sounded like more of those bare instrumentals from No Love Deep Web.

The melodies on Runway H (2) sounded pretty cheesy for some reason.

Runway E (3) sounded like something from The Money Store, but a bit moodier and cleaner. Really cool.

And we close on Runway n (3), which was pretty similiar to E (3), in it's similarities with The Money Store.

Not the most interesting of albums, don't see much of a reason to come back. But you might be wondering what's with the weird naming convention of this album? Well, all the letters combined form "Jenny Death When". Jenny Death was the second half of Death Grips' double album, The Powers That B...

this fine lady is the artist behind the money store cover.
Favourite tracks: Runway E, Runway n (2), Runway D, Runway T, Runway E (3), Runway n (3);
Score: 5/10
