Molchat Doma - С крыш наших домов
Welcome back everyone to my blog. Today, I will be reviewing Molchat Doma's debut album, С крыш наших домов (pronounced S krishi nasha domov). First of all, who is this band? Well, I'm sure you remember The End of Electronics' Voskhod, any earlier post of mine where I talk about his newest album. Well, the way I discovered TEoE was through Spotify recommending him to me. But he was recommended because I was listening to Molchat Doma on repeat. And since I love this band so much, I sais why nor review their whole discography (there are only 3 albums. sad). Alright, enough blabbering, let's get straight into it.
And starting off strong with Дома Молчат. This song has some of the best synth pads and basslines I have ever heard. This song is just an absolute slapper!
Then suddenly, a shift in tone, from the upbeat Дома Молчат, to the slow, melancholic Kрыши. And yet, such an amazing song! The dark bassline and slow guitar mixed so well with the deep vocals. Definetly one of my favourites!
Then back to the upbeat songs with Люди Надоели. Though not quite as memorable as the previous two songs, it was still a really cool track, especially the basswork. It was top-notch!
Машина Работает had a skiddish beat, similiar to an Aphex Twin song, but not quite as trippy. The vocals weren't anything special, and the synth pads were meh.
Необычный Человек wasn't very memorable, and the vocals felt rather out of sync with the melody. The bass was pretty cool though!
Прятки had some pretty heavy drums, but really cool guitar strings. They were the highlight of the song for me.
Технология was the first actually memorable song, after all those mostly mediocre tracks. The vocals and synth chords were really neat, and the bass of course was great.
Тишина had a slower beat, with a cool synth and bass, and that guitar, man... so fricking cool. The vocals added to an overall great track.
And finally, Я Не Коммунист. It started with an old, pre-recorded speech, then transitioning into the main melody, which was overall pretty nice, but the vocals were really weird. They didn't sound like my man, Mr. Igor (the vocalist). It wasn't him, it wasn't his deep, monotone voice.
Overall, for their first album, it was a pretty good record, but it was clear they didn't really know what they were doing, especially in the production. Yet still managed to make a good album. But... HO BOI, just wait for Этажи... you'll see that beauty when the time comes...
